Moment of Perception (2013)

Exploring the familiar process of fabricating work from nothing. ‘Moment of Perception’ visualises the process in which we seek the unique moment of clarity in our thoughts, juxtaposed with my own process of ‘finding’ animated objects.
We follow the exciting burst of ideas as we experiment with a melange of tedious ideas until we become overwhelmed with misdirecting concepts and suggestions. Through this chaos, we seek and discover the sublime, the moment of clarity after the misdirection. Only then can we create great pieces of work.
This final-year work has been digitally hand drawn. With over 1,200 individual images produced to create this work.
Featuring an extract from “Swanns Way’ by Marcel Proust. Sound design by Sophie O’Malley (soundcloud.com/sophieomalley)

HOME AND CONSONANCE

This farm on the Welsh/ Shropshire border exists in harmony with it’s natural surroundings. Foliage and mould reclaim the constructed buildings and structures that have stood for 60 years. This is a home, this is my families home, this is where we come from, but it is slowly permitted to return to the natural state it once held.

I thought this would make a pretty neat amateur music video peace - Thank you to Tropics for allowing me to use the track. (Shot on a Nikon D90, Edited with FCPx and Pixel Studio Plugins)

Song: Tropics “Home and Consonance”

BRILLIARDS : We played pool. (LifeTrailers)

FARREN in CHINA Vlog #12 (Last one I promise!)

So, I went to China a few months ago as part of a competition win from a short film I made. Here are some of the things I saw, recorded and then spent some time editing together.

I’m editing this a few months after the trip, and I already want to go back so badly, it was just incredible. So beautiful, so diverse and such wonderful people!

Location in order of appearance: Derby Train Station (UK), Heathrow Terminal 5 (UK), Guangzhou (Guangdong province, China), Nanjing (Jiangsu province, China).

Check out my other Vlogs from the trip if you want (but they’re not all very good, so I would suggest against it!)

The song used is “I wanna go” by Summer Heart.

Merry Christmas Tumblr!

Have a lovely time with your friends and family, and take care. Me and MummaBear tried to make mulled wine, and it went a bit tits up.

FARREN in CHINA. #1

So, today I discovered that my film won the ‘Cool Olympic - Sino-UK University Students’ Competition’ with the British Council. This is an incredible achievement, and so far, the biggest!

By winning this competition, I have been provided with an all expenses paid trip to China to an Animation symposium for a week on the 11th November 2012.

I would like to thank everyone that was involved with the competition; Marc Bosward for encouraging me to submit, the other University of Derby students that created work for the group submission, the organisers of the symposium and The University of Derby for funding me!

I’ll be doing a vlog of the trip on YouTube, as well as here on my portfolio so follow or subscribe if you fancy it!
